8D Peruvian delight

The tour will starts with the capital of Peru, Lima. The city is the representation of the country’s contrasts, between agricultural traditions and industrialised economy. Here the guests will see grand monuments and locations, such as Lima’s Main Square, the Cathedral, Government´s Palace and San Francisco Monastery. The tour continues with an immersion in the culture and history of Peru. The visitors will have the opportunity to visit the famous Sacred Valley, to discover the traditions of the ancient people and the capital of the Incas Empire, Cusco. The guests will have the chance to taste the traditional seafood dish, Cerviche, prepared using an ancient Peruvian technique. Visits to the Moray salt mines, Ollantaytambo fortress, and the well-known Machu Picchu are all organised. There will also be an exciting trip on the Orient Express to soak up the majestic views and absorb the sights and sounds of ancient traditions.

Itinerary

DAY 1 // ARRIVAL LIMA

Upon your arrival in Lima, we will provide assistance at the airport and transfer you to your hotel.

DAY 2 // LIMA

After breakfast at the hotel there will be a visit to the most significant parts of colonial Lima, including many UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. The tour will proceed to Casa Aliaga, America’s best preserved colonial mansion, occupied by the same family since 1535; then the tour will continue on to visit Lima’s Main Square where the Cathedral and the Government´s Palace is located. Guests will see the San Francisco Monastery, an architectural masterpiece. Before a pleasant lunch at Señorío de Sulco. This elegant restaurant, is located at the northern extreme of the Miraflores district. The restaurant takes a thoughtful approach to traditional Peruvian cooking and has a daily lunch buffet with an almost overwhelming line-up of cold and hot plates. The buffet is the perfect way to sample a wide variety of Peruvian dishes, some spicier than others. Then a return trip to the hotel.

DAY 3 // LIMA - CUSCO - SACRED VALLEY

After breakfast at the hotel there will be a transfer from the hotel to the airport with assistance for the departure flight. Upon arrival in Cusco, we will provide the guests with overland transport to the Urubamba valley, also known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. En route the guests will visit, Awana Kancha where South American camelidae are bred. They will learn about the superb llama, alpaca and vicuna fibres as well as the ancient weaving techniques that are still in use.

DAY 4 // SACRED VALLEY

The guests will be picked up from the hotel in Urubamba valley and driven to the archaeological complex of Maras and Moray. Firstly stopping at the picturesque town of Maras, a multi-coloured caprice of nature that possesses important salt mines. The tour will then continue to the archaeological site of Moray, where there are impressive agricultural terraces constructed by the Incas. One of the most notable features of Moray is the temperature difference between the top and the bottom of the Moray complex, which can vary by 15°C (59°F). Lunch will be at Casa Hacienda Orihuela, where the Orihuelas, a family of great collectors, will be your hosts. The house has a varied collection of popular and colonial art ceramics, paintings, weapons, photography, ceremonial vessels and the ceramic bulls of Pucara. The surrounding area includes a forest of eucalyptus trees and other native species and here the famous giant white corn is cultivated for export.

DAY 5 // SACRED VALLEY - MACHU PICCHU

After breakfast at the hotel the guests will visit the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. The site was built just as the Spaniards arrived and evidence of how it was constructed is still visible. After admiring the site’s magnificent past, the tour will stroll through the quaint streets of today’s town. After which will be a transfer to Ollanta train station to board the Orient Express luxury train, the Hiram Bingham, named after the man who discovered Machu Picchu in 1911. The journey will take approximately one and a half hours, during which brunch set behind the spectacular Andean scenery. The tour will arrive at The Lost Citadel of the Incas around 1:00pm, which will be a perfect time for the guests to visit this stunning place practically on their own. The guided tour of the citadel will stroll through the archaeological site before enjoying an afternoon tea at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge Hotel. As the sun goes down the guests will return to the train for departure.

DAY 6 // MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO

Breakfast will be at the hotel. Then some free time before lunch at Cafe Inkaterra. As the sun goes down the guests will return to the train for departure. Back on board, they will be accorded VIP treatment: they will be served a cocktail accompanied with live entertainment. After that they will be escorted to the dining car for a 4 course gourmet dinner, making the trip to Machu Picchu an
unforgettable experience. Upon arrival in Cusco the guests will be transferred from the train station to their hotel.

DAY 7 // CUSCO

After breakfast at the hotel. The tour begins with a visit to the legendary Korikancha, Temple of the Sun and the main religious centre of the Incas dedicated to the Sun God. According to the chronicles, the walls of the temple were covered entirely in gold. The tour will then continue with the impressive colonial Cathedral of Cusco that contains over 400 paintings of the Cuzco School and many altars, as well as colonial art that can be appreciated in its entirety. Then stroll through the narrow streets of the old town. In Loreto Street, the famous stone of 12 angles can be found.

DAY 8 // CUSCO - LIMA - DEPARTURE

After breakfast at the hotel will be the transfer from the hotel to the airport and assistance on departure flight.
