After picking up your hire car in Naples airport, drive to your selected hotel in Naples. There will be time to settle in before enjoying a welcome dinner consisting of typical Campanian produce at Trattoria Medina, a traditional Neapolitan eatery famed for its hearty and delicious local dishes. Morning departure for a guided tour of Naples and its main attractions. Discover Dell’Ovo Castle, the Royal Palace, the Maschio Angioino and the Galleria Umberto. Pause for lunch at Ciro a Santa Brigida, which is famed for its seafood dishes and pizzas. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to explore at your own pace this most atmospheric of cities. We suggest a stroll around the streets of the famous Spaccanapoli part of the old town and some gourmand shopping, with many specialist shops selling cured meats, cheeses, conserves, pastries and fresh produce. Depart the hotel after breakfast, heading to the other side of the Bay of Naples, beyond Mount Vesuvius to Pompeii, the opulent Roman city, which was buried beneath the ashes and rocks that spewed from the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. A guided visit to this astonishing archaeological site will illustrate the habits and curiosities of the daily life of the ancient inhabitants. They and their city were frozen in time and only discovered many centuries later. To wander the streets of Pompeii, visiting once luxurious villas decorated with majestic mosaics and frescoes, and admiring amphitheatres and squares is like travelling back in time. Savour breakfast at the hotel before starting out for what will undoubtedly be a memorable day exploring one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Amalfi Coast. Leaving Sorrento, the road first winds its way up through some wonderful gardens and fruit groves where grapes, lemons and figs grow abundantly side by side looking out over the crystalline waters of the sea below. Follow the road as it hugs dramatic cliffs with incredible views of the Mediterranean and the coastline, which can be admired on the descent to picture-postcard Positano. This village is renowned for its wonderful whitewashed houses and balconies draped with bougainvillea, which fall in a cascade of colour against the mountain rock. After Positano, continue to the town of Amalfi itself. We suggest visiting the beautiful cathedral and the Valle dei Mulini, where paper was produced in ancient times. Lunch is followed by a visit to the Antica Pasticceria Andrea Pansa pastry shop for a tasting of the local specialities. Then visit the Azienda Agricola Valle dei Mulini distillery to taste some limoncello and discover the secrets involved in its preparation. We suggest you next head to Scala, one of the oldest towns along the Amalfi Coast. Continue on to the magical town of Ravello, where some of the world’s most famous composers like Verdi and Wagner wrote their works, before arriving at Vietri sul Mare, renowned the world over for its pottery and ceramics. Browse the pottery shops and factories at your own pace. After lunch, you can instead opt to go to Cetara, one of the smallest fishing villages along the coast that rises at the foot of Monte Falerio. The town is one of Campania’s best producers of the traditional amber anchovy sauce (colatura di alici). Visit the village and enjoy stroll around the tiny streets, discovering shops and laboratories such as Nettuno and I Sapori Cetranesi, which offer typical local produce such as the colatura and vegetables preserved in oil. On the way back to Sorrento, a traditional dinner will be hosted at Li Galli Restaurant, located in the Villa Franca Hotel in Positano. Overnight at your selected hotel in Sorrento. Dinner included.
After breakfast, enjoy a short walk through the quaint streets in the old town. Here you can do a bit of shopping and visit one of the limoncello laboratories, where you can see how it is produced and, of course, taste it. For lunch, why not visit one of the seafood restaurants located at Marina Grande. In the afternoon, enjoy a 75-minute pizza-making cooking class. On arrival, you will be provided with an apron and disposable headset. The programme includes production from mixing the ingredients, the sauce, cooking and consumption of the same accompanied by soft drink or glass of wine, or beer. As you go through the various steps taken by the participants, the master pizzaiolo will give tips on how to make the perfect pizza at home. Return to the hotel.
